Style Me Pretty Fame! {"I Wish" Wednesday Postponed for Obvious Self-Promotion!}

OK, so I submitted two inspiration boards to Style Me Pretty for their latest contest. The prize is $250 towards a Crate & Barrel purchase (yes, please!).

Today they featured one of my boards! I don't know if that means I'm a finalist or what, but how freakin' cool is that!?! Go check it out!

I love me some GetMarried.com. I really do. Today they were talking about tablescapes and Chivari chairs and all the fancy stuff that just isn't going to be happening at my wedding! The article linked up to a fabulous linen rental company called Wildflower Linen. Holy cow! Amazing stuff! They have a blog too!

My personal favorite. If money weren't an object, I'd go for this setting. I'm going to try to get close though! I've got some chargers coming in from India that I ordered when I was overseas. I hope they will help create a pretty setting. While not a drop-dead gorgeous as this, it will be my own version of fabulousity!
You have got to check this website out if you aren't familiar already. LOTS of ideas just came flooding in! I swear, the closer I get to my wedding, the less I should read. I keep getting all these "extra" ideas that are just exhausting me. Sadly, I'm hooked. Is there some sort of methadone clinic for wedding addictions? I need an intervention!

DIY Flower Girl Basket

Again, me with the knock-offs! I swear sometimes I feel like I don't have an original bone in my body. This time, I'm channeling a lovely Etsy shop called Y & E Bridal. They sell a lot of cute stuff, one thing that caught my eye was a flower girl basket. She had two versions, one with doves and one with little finches (or some kind of non-dove bird, not sure what it was). They were cute as hell. A little pricey for a basket in my opinion, but cute all the same.

But even in their cuteness factor, the baskets weren't exactly what I was looking for so I set out to do it myself.

I already had some moss that I had as a color reference for work, so grabbed a handful of that. Seriously, it was no more than a handful.

I know I hate dealing with hot glue and hot glue guns, so I intended to use very little. I started stuffing the little basket crevices around the rim, using my fingers and some tweezers on smaller areas.

The dreaded hot glue gun! After I got as much moss in as I could with my hands and no glue, there were a few light areas that had to glue moss on to. Did I mention I hate hot glue? It just gets everywhere.


I also got a set of four little finch-like birds at The Lobby for $1.99! They come with little wires stuck in them, so I positioned them on the edge of the basket and wrapped the wire around once (you can see the wire on the second photo below). I secured it in place with hot glue.

I tucked some more moss around the glue on the bird and on the inside edge of the basket, just to hide the glue.

I have a ton of extra ribbon that I didn't use on my invitations, so I just took two pre-cut lengths and tied bows at the base of the handles.

And voila! My own little flower-girl basket. Since I had most of the supplies for this, it cost me less than $6.00 and is exactly what I wanted.

I think from start to finish, the whole thing took me 90 minutes, tops. I was also scrolling through Google Reader at the same time, so I can't be sure how much time it really took. I might add a little more moss later on, but I think I like the moss-minimalist look.

I am now looking at three knock-off things from my wedding: my OOT Bags (thank you Wedding Chicks!), my Reception Fun booklets (thank you Guestbook Store!) and now my flower girl basket (thank you Y & E Bridal!)! But isn't that what all these websites are for? Inspiration? I do hope so.

You all may remember my quickie post regarding my 4-year old flower girl and her theories on God. Apparently, she has changed her current beliefs. Her mother reports:

The Girl (out of nowhere): "I think God is the Pink Panther."

Pie on a Stick

I'm a big fan of My Simple Details. You might be familiar with her wedding. It was perfection. In Bali. The only reason I even know about it is because my very good friend Marie went to the amazing wedding and took my other friend Michele. At that wedding, my friend Marie met the bride's twin brother. They have been together ever since and of course, I will get to meet him at my wedding! I doubt my own wedding will be as fabulous as Vicki's, but as long as my friends are there with me, I'll be a happy camper!

Just so you have the back story as to why I am referencing My Simple Details, other than the fact that it's a cool blog. So kudos to Vicki for the below information. If you're a DC bride, I'd say call her to plan your wedding.

You guys know I kinda hate to take stuff from other peoples blogs and put yet another blog in the blog-o-sphere, but sometimes, ya just gotta. Dancing processionals? Yes, of course. Pie on a Stick? I just gotta. I'm even using the same title. That's sad. But it's PIE ON A STICK! How could I not lead with that, right?
