"Kick-Ass!" or "A Merry Little Christmas to Me!"

Are you familiar with Bright, Bold and Beautiful? No? You should be! Laura offers up some fantastic design ideas. She's aslo an amazing artist in her own right. She paints pretty watercolors. See:

Go look at her Etsy Shop too.

Anyway, she had a coolio contest a few weeks back and I won! God, I love contests. I mean, I love having them (I get so excited, it's sick) and I love winning them. It's always such a great surprise because I don't ever think I'm going to win.

Laura's contest was for Etsy shop (you know I loves me some Etsy) Carla's Custom Creations. I get to choose something off her Etsy shop or have a custom item made. I'm loving this thingy:

Cute, right?

The Winner!

Oh, I have to say that I am SO freakin' excited to announce the big winner of the Florrie Mitton Couture wedding garter! I have to say that I am super excited for her because she was one of my very first followers! We had many-a-offline conversation about lace (she made her veil too!). She planned her NYC wedding in four months (!) and now lives in London, planning her second wedding in Taiwan! Amazing! Congratulations to Miss Chic 'n Cheap Living!

Girl, email me stat so I can give you the super-secret code to share with Claire so you can claim your custom garter! And how appropriate that you won, considering she's in Lancashire!

Thanks to ALL of you who made this contest such a rousing success! I really appreciate the tweets, blogs and comments! I *heart* my readers. It's true.

The Ceremony , Part II

I know it's a blurry one (my friend claims she was bawling when she took it), but I just love how The Candyman planted one on me!

As I mentioned before, The Candyman and I totally lifted several parts of our ceremony from fellow Bloggers as well as from traditional wedding ceremonies. I have no shame in admitting this because what we found from others was incorporated into how The Candyman and I chose to commit ourselves to one another. How you do that is completely up to you and your fiance.

We found a part of our ceremony through one of my favorite budget brides at 2000 Dollar Budget Wedding. She had created a list of favorite ceremonies. We stole part of our ceremony from Peonies and Polaroids.

Here's how it started:

Officiant:

The Candyman and Louise want to thank each of you for coming today to share in this very special time in their lives. Those of you who have been invited here to witness Louise and The Candyman's wedding ceremony and to celebrate with them today will play your part in their marriage too. There are only two official witnesses at a wedding but each and every person here today will witness the words that they will speak to one another and the vows that they will make. You should take good care to remember these words; for a marriage needs the help of a community, of friends and family who will be there when needed and will do all that they can during hard times to stand by Louise and The Candyman and offer their support to them and the new family that they will create. May you always do all within your power to support the union that will be made here today and to nurture the bond between these two people whom you love.

Throughout time countless millions of people from many cultures, religions and societies have gathered among friends and families to celebrate their love for one and other and their commitment to each other. Each culture has symbols and rituals to celebrate marriage from the Japanese tea ceremony to the Jewish tradition of breaking the glass, a rich tapestry of traditions from around the world combine to symbolize the meaning of marriage. And today we should try to remember that a wedding is a symbol, a beautiful, heartfelt and meaningful symbol but a symbol nonetheless. This ceremony is not magic, it will not create a relationship that does not already exist and has not already been celebrated in all the commitments The Candyman and Louise have made to each other, both large and small, in the days since they first met and recognized their connection to one another. It is a symbol of how far they have come together and a symbol of the promise that they will make to each other to continue to live their lives together and to love each other solely and above all others. And it is in the spirit of these symbols that The Candyman has prepared a poem titles The Great Concatenation and has asked his friend James Monroe to read for us.

The Great Concatenation

At dawn, the morning fog crowds

About church steeples as if pausing in meditation

Before beginning the day

And in that quiet stillness

I belong to you

The light of the setting sun

Glinting off grain silos makes me pine for you

I can't explain why

In your eyes, there lies

The pulsing flirtation of fireflies

Hovering about paper lanterns

Suspended effortlessly in the summer night

The space between us aches me,

As seas of mist converge above my head in cloudscapes

Like weightless gray elephants in some distant caravan across the sky

There lies a part of you to delight me in all the beauty that I behold,

From the eerie astral eye of the Hourglass Nebula

To the gooey center of a perfect grilled cheese sandwich

The thread of you is woven through the firmament

Even our very atoms were once the embers of ancient stars

But through some great concatenation

We have arrived here in this moment finally whole

To revel on the miracle that is us.

Yeah, my man wrote a poem for me on our wedding day. How bad ass is that? I'll write about our vows later in the week. Dallas is kinda sucking. They call it Dall-ASS, Tex-ASS for a reason, folks.

DON'T FORGET TO ENTER THE FABULOUS FLORRIE MITTON COUTURE CONTEST!
ENTER HERE TO WIN A CUSTOM MADE WEDDING GARTER!

Contest Time! Contest Time!

Oh, you guys are so lucky. I totally want to back up two months and wear a garter like this! Well, I can live vicariously through other brides quite well, so I hope you all enter this fabulous new contest!

Remember a couple weeks ago when I showed all those pretty garters from Florrie Minton Couture? No? Well, go here and read about it.

I just love the look and style of these beautiful garters so much that I had to offer them as a contest! Had to! Good thing Claire, the brains, brawn and beauty behind Florrie Mitton, was game.

Alright, alright. I'm getting to the contest already. Claire has most graciously agreed to offer one of her available styles (your choice) to one incredibly lucky reader. Don't see the perfect garter? That's OK. She'll just go ahead and create a custom-made garter just for you. Yes, ladies. You read that correctly. Custom-made. All for you. For free.

So here's what ya gotta do. And of course, the more you do, the more entries you get!

1. Go to Florrie Mitton Couture and pick out your fave style. Since Claire doesn't have a blog yet, go ahead and add her to your favorites on Etsy if you are lovin' her stuff like I do.
2. Come back here and leave me a comment. (1 entry)
3. Become a follower if you aren't already or tell me that you're a current follower. (2 entries)
4. Tweet! Tweet! Tweet! Ya gotta follow me on Twitter so I can read it! Don't forget to tell me you did! (3 entries)
5. Re-post this contest on your blog and let me know you did! (4 entries)
6. Get the word out there about these beautiful garters! If you post the info on another wedding board or chat room, please include the link in your comment! (5 entries)

This contest will run all week long while I'm slaving away at a conference in Dallas. The contest will close at midnight on Friday, December 4th! Get your entries in! Have fun!

Cookin' Up A Contest! (and "I Wish" Wednesday!)

Source

What's cookin' over here at The Thirty-Something Bride headquarters? Well, it ain't just a deep fried turkey, my friends. A contest, that's what! I am so, so excited, you have no idea. Here's just a little hint for what's in store....

1. De-vine. De-Gorgeous. De-Lovely. De-Lish.
2. There's customization involved.
3. Etsy, so you know it's groovy.

All will be revealed soon enough. Until then, you're going to have to make do with the hints!

Besides, everyone will be so stuffed with turkey tomorrow, it'll be tough to rouse anyone into any sort of excitement. Unless you're going to see New Moon, that is (like me). It's OK to admit it. Here, I'll go first: I am physically attracted to a 17 year-old boy named Taylor Lautner. In some states, that's perfectly legal (for instance, North Carolina). Surprisingly here in Tennessee, it's not legal. But come February when he turns 18, he's as legal as they come. So technically I am considered a perv, but only for 3 more months.

GOBBLE! GOBBLE! GOBBLE!

I'd like to give thanks to all of our Armed Forces both domestic and overseas and to their families at home who will be without their soldiers tomorrow.
I want to give thanks to my friends and family who I hope are blessed with happiness and good health.
And my wish is that (now and for always) when there is a person in need, someone will reach out a helping hand.
I want to give thanks to The Candyman, because he effing rocks! Love you, Baby!

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!

{A Contest!} Piles of Wedding Crap!

I know you've got one. Or two. Maybe more? I know I do.

May I present to you The Wedding Closet....

We seem to have run out of room there, so may I now present to you The Wedding Dining Room Table.....

We also have The Wedding Attic and The Wedding Office, both brimming with all kinds of crap. I am a bit of a neat freak, so all the clutter is starting to get to me. We are going to have to do something about the dining room table because another month of that table will send me over the edge. Must get The Candyman to move it all up to The Wedding Office. Consolidation is what I need.

I was thinking I'd love to run some sort of contest. I don't know what I'd offer as a prize (maybe the simple recognition is enough?), but I think it'd be totally awesome to see pictures of other people's PWC (Piles of Wedding Crap). Everyone could send them in, I could post them and then we could vote for the best PWC. Think of the glory and fame of winning such a prestigious award. I'd at least send you a certificate. I've got plenty of leftover card stock.

Totally going to have that contest. I've just decided. Email me your best picture of your awesome PWC. I'll give everybody until Monday 9/7/09 at midnight. That way, you've got the long weekend to snappy snappy and send. Send them to me at thethirtysomethingbride@gmail.com. Good luck!

Will my faithful followers help me get the word out? Re-post, Twitter, Facebook. You know the drill! I can't wait to see what I get!

{Winner Announced!} Rachel Jasper Design

OK, I wasn't going to post the winner until I could get home tonight and post, but our server went down this a.m. and I found myself strangled to a blinding stop by the IT department. I had neither my email or the Internet (*gasp*) so did a manual random draw of all the winners.

Last night, I wrote down everyone's name who entered and then ticked off how many entries they had. I had that list in my purse this morning (when did I do that?). So what I did was I assigned a person a number and entered that number the number of times a person had an entry. For example, Miss Sarah Elizabeth was #1 and had five entries because she commented, blogged, tweeted, follows moi and now follows Rachel. Five entries, five little number 1's. I did this for 22 different people. I put the numbers on an Excel spreadsheet and printed them out and cut them into tiny strips.

Then I put all the numbers in a bag and gave the bag a good shake. Kind like I wanted to give to Bitchface and Dickhead this morning. *See previous post.*

Then I closed my eyes and picked a strip of paper. I don't have a photo of this because my eyes were closed. Duh. Here's the number I picked:

And here's the name that the number two corresponds with (please disregard the psychotic chicken scratch, also known as my handwriting):

So the winner of the 100 FREE Custom Save the Dates is BRITTNEY!!!!! She's got a blog too! It's Sand Dollars and Sunflowers! Miss Brittney, please email me at thethirtysomethingbride@gmail.com so I can give you the super secret password identifier code to share with Rachel.

But wait, there's more! I got an email last night from Rachel and she's decided to offer another incredible opportunity for all of you who entered, but didn't win.

If you entered the contest, place an order with Rachel by August 31st and she will give you 10 % off any pre-designed invitation set (customized with your colors)! Rachel's pre-designed sets run about $415 for 100 invitations, RSVPs and coordinating envelopes! Contact her now before she books up! racheljasperdesign@gmail.com

Thanks to everyone who commented, follows, tweeted and posted! It was a great contest! Thanks to Rachel too for the incredible contest!

For My Own Personal Amusement

This post is not wedding related at all. However, it is very Thirty-Something Bride-ish. A little peek into what kind of woman The Thirty-Something Bride is, if you will.

For the last two years, we have been getting phone calls at home for a guy who does not live with me and The Candyman. We have a cat, but there is no similarity in names there. In order to protect all identities of all people, I’m making up names. We will call the guy people are calling for The Big Spender. Now Big must have gotten himself into some financial strains. How do I know this? Because collection agencies have been calling the house for (like I said) TWO YEARS. Now, let’s just pretend that my name is The Thirty Something Bride Notabig Spender. Let’s also pretend that The Candyman’s name is Big Candyman (perhaps a name I call him privately, but not his name at all). You might be able to see why people might think that The Big Spender lives at our house. Well, he does not.

This is a fact that I have been sharing with these multiple collection agencies for the last TWO YEARS. Have I mentioned that yet? Two. Years. I have threatened these people who call me on Sunday morning at 7:30am (oh yes, they do). Or Saturday at 8:30am. Or 6 or 7 times during the day (so says the caller ID). I have threatened them many times with the wrath of my anger. I have called the numbers back and threatened. I have been sweet. I have begged. I have yelled. These people totally suck.

So there was a message this week from some law office and they left a phone number and extension.

I called this number on my way to work this morning. I spoke to a woman. Here’s how the conversation went:

Me: Hi, my name is The Thirty Something Bride Notabig Spender. I have been getting calls at my home for the last two years for The Big Spender. There is no one here by that name.

Bitchface: What is your name?

Me: The Thirty Something Bride Notabig Spender. Listen, you guys are not calling the right person. You keep calling me at horrid times and I have called and called and…

Bitchface: What’s your phone number?

Me: Listen, it’s 555-555-5555 but I’ve been down this road before! Can I please talk to a supervise….

Bitchface: ‘Click’

Whoa. Really? Noooooo, she didn’t just hang up on me. Did she? Well, let’s call back and find out.

Me: Hi. This is The Thirty Something Bride Notabig Spender. I was just speaking to someone about an issue I have.

Bitchface: Yes, mam. We probably just got disconnected.

Me: Oh, OK. Listen, you guys are not getting this right. There is no one in this house or in my family or anyone’s family of anyone I know named The Big Spender. Can you….

Bitchface: ‘Click’

Oh. Really? Really? This time I call back and I don’t enter the extension, but dial zero.

Dickhead: Hello, this is Dickhead, how may I help you?

Me: Yes, hi. I would like to speak to the Customer Service Manager, please.

Dickhead: Yes, mam. I can help you with that. I’m a manager.

Me: Great! Listen, I was just talking to a woman and I think she hung up on me because I’m frustrated about you guys calling me all the time.

Dickhead: ‘Click’

*Slow, menacing smile* Now. Now, we will have some phone-fun.

Me: (after Dickhead answers) Really? Really? Is this where you want to take it?

Dickhead: I am so sorry, mam. I think we just got disconnected.

Me: Really? I need someone who is going to listen to….

Dickhead: ‘Click’

Dial.

Bitchface: DO YOU NOT HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR TIME!?!

Me: Actually, right now, no. I really don’t.

Bitchface: ‘Click’

Dial

Bitchface: HAVEN’T YOU EVER DIALED A WRONG NUMBER BEFORE? I TOOK YOUR NAME OFF THE DAMN LIST!

Me: Sure, I’ve dialed a wrong number before, but not for TWO YEARS. What are you, a fucking idiot?

Bitchface: ‘Click’

Dial

‘Click’

Dial

‘Click’

Dial. This time it went directly to voice mail.

Me: Yeah, you know I had to call you back. You know it. Have I made my point clear? ‘Click’

Now, I am probably going to have to unplug my phones for the next week or so as they might retaliate. I mean, they do have my home phone number.

P.S. Winner of the big contest to be announced later today!

The List

I made the list last night. The list of crap left to do. I tried to be as specific as possible. Whoa. Let's not go there today, shall we?

I've got a few things I've forgotten to mention along the way, so I'll just all caught up on that instead of re-living the dreaded "to do" list.

A couple of weeks ago I went grocery shopping solo (this is actually an activity The Candyman and I enjoy doing together) and hit the Super Wal-Mart near our house. We hate the SWM. Hate it. We prefer the Publix because they play fun music we can dance to in the aisles. However, SWM is cheaper and since we are still on Wedding Financial Lock Down, SWM it is. Boo.

As I was meandering up and down the aisles wearing my iPod (it drowns out the screaming children), I found two more goodies I'm planning on doing something with. I can't even remember how much I bought of these! They might go in the OOT bags, or on the Kid's Table.

The old school Cracker Jacks were $.99 for 3 boxes. I can't remember how much the mini Moon Pies were, but I didn't care. Moon Pies are part of the Southern Culture. They are made in Tennessee! In the lovely town of Bell Buckle (about an hour south of Nashville), they even have a RC Cola and Moon Pie Festival that includes a 10 mile run! For my fellow runners out there, you know how good that would taste after a long run!

On to other updates. Panties. Yes, that's right, panties. Or, more specifically "thong-tha-thong-thong!" Yes, indeed. I am going to blog about panties and you can't stop me. I am generally a commando kinda girl (I know, TMI, but hey - you're still reading, right?), but for some reason that just doesn't seem "appropriate" for my wedding day. Besides, there are going to be people helping me get dressed and I really don't think flashing them my parts is something they signed up for. So, off the Victoria's Secret I went, armed with a recent $10 off coupon I got in the mail (you know I loves me my coupons). This shopping excursion was during our tax-free weekend, so I saved an extra 9.25%! I got three pairs of potential wedding panties and a few pair of post wedding/honeymoon fun-things. See!

Did I ever mention to you guys that I'm a Featured Bride on The Wedding Chicks blog? Well, I am. They offered us bloggers 50% off their store and I bought this cute T-shirt that is just like my OOT bag that I knocked off from them. I love it! The quality is really good and they are on sale now. You should get one!

Last, but certainly not least - make sure you enter the 100 FREE Save the Date contest here!

P.S. Did you guys know that Micheal's will accept JoAnn's coupons? Why am I just finding this out now?

{Give-A-Way} I Will Survive!

What would happen if your DJ or band didn't show up?
What would you do if the Ring Bearer swallowed your rings?
What if the Best Man starts talking about the Groom's ex-lovers in his toast?

What would you do?

The answers can all be found in The Worst Case Scenario Handbook: Weddings!

Seriously.

I actually own two of these survival books already and love them! When the folks at Chronicle Books contacted me for a giveaway, I jumped right on it! I just love giveaways where I think the product is uber-cool and can stand behind it!

Now, if you aren't familiar with these handbooks, you need to be. I feel fairly confident that in an extreme emergency, I might be able to attempt landing a plane versus ......well, not landing a plane. I mean, come on! I travel a ton for my job! My chances of actually being in a position to land a plane increase exponentially every time I fly, right? Right. It's good to know some basic plane landing skills and I believe I have received these skills from my Worst Case Scenario Handbook. You should too.

More importantly, I think we all should be prepared on the day of The Big Show, right? I'll tell you what my biggest fear is. I'm afraid that someone standing up front will pass out - like me. Or the Groom. Maybe the Best Man. I think my MOH will be okay. At any rate, what does one do when someone passes out? I mean, other than "Stand back! Give them some air!"

Well, the good folks over at Worst Case Scenario have the answers to your potential wedding day drama! They have great how to's that include diagrams:
  • Make an emergency ring
  • Repair a Dropped Cake
  • Properly toss a bouquet (and how to fake left and throw right)
  • How to deal with outdoor wedding disasters

All stuff that is good to know, right? So the fine people at Chronicle Books are offering The Thirty-Something Bride readers a chance to win a copy of this awesome and awesomely funny book! And I don't just have one copy to give away, but two!
While the book is meant to be tongue-in-cheek, they really do offer great ideas and advise.

So here's how to enter!
1. Leave a comment here with your name, first initial of your last name and your email address.
2. Leave a comment that you are a new follower or already a follower.
3. Leave a comment that you have posted this contest on your blog and it will count as TWO entries.
That means you have a total of FOUR chances to win! Good luck! Contest runs through August 5th!

And stay tuned for another give away next week! Have you sent your Save the Dates out yet? No? You might want to hold off on that until you see the fabulous designs I have to show you!

P.S. If you don't want to leave your email address, that's OK. Just make sure if I announce you as a winner that I have a way to get in touch with you!

"I Wish" Wednesday!

My wish for this Wednesday kinda already came true! I was looking and looking for hair toys on Etsy and not really finding anything that grooved me (except scary mannequin heads). I gave up in frustration and started cyber-thumbing through my favorite blog reads. I happened upon Chic n' Cheap NYC's, a blogging bride after my own champagne-taste-and-beer-budget-heart. I can't wait to see her veil....

Anyway, she was offering a 20% discount for Chic n' Cheap readers as well as a chance to win a hair toy from DonnaElla, a hair toy and birdcage veil creator! Well, I headed straight over to DonnaElla's Etsy shop, checked out her stuff and entered her contest.

I won.

I WON! I WON! I WON! I WON! I WON! I WON! I WON! I WON! I WON! I WON!

In case you were wondering? I won.

Miss Donna put all the names in a box and let her little girl pick a name and she picked ME! I won.

I chose this item from the DonnaElla Etsy shop.

It looks like it has little tiny feathers behind it (which I might end up removing) but the flower part is PERFECT! It's got a pearl center that will coordinate nicely with the family jewels.

So my wish is that my hair toy be here now! I want to see if it matches the rest of The Big Show Ensemble.

I sound like a spoiled kid....I won! I won! I want it now! I don't care. I am just so excited that I won something. I can't remember the last time I actually won a contest of chance. I swore after I lost the Skinny Cow contest on Budget Savvy Bride that I wasn't going to enter any more contests. I really had my hopes up for a month's supply of Skinny Cows. I freaking love those things, specifically the vanilla cones.

Anyway, I really don't have too many wishes these days, and I think that's a great thing. So instead of wishing for my free and wonderful surprise to arrive, perhaps I'll wish for patience. :)

Thank you, Donna for the contest and the beautiful prize. I simply cannot wait to see it!

WeddingChannel.com Bridal Blog Awards!

WeddingChannel.com is hosting their first ever Bridal Blog Awards! They are asking for nominations so that they can "channel" the best of the best! I went to the nomination board and have found a ton of blogs I didn't even know existed. Very cool. While I feed my blog addictions on a daily basis (I'm suffering some DT's while overseas!), it's always cool to find new and exciting blogs to read!

I would be flattered as all hell to be nominated, that's for sure. However, if you've got a favorite you need to share with the bridal community, I highly suggest it. There are so many great people out there working hard to bring so much information to the wedding community. I know I would have continued to feel a bit lost without this bevy of information. It's the people involved who support me and other brides on a more personal level who deserve some props! To nominate a candidate, go here:
